Setting Up my Europe Travel Journal

I feel like I’ve been taking about this holiday forever - and it’s finally here! I’m journaling my way around Europe through late January and early February, but first I set up a few spreads to help my trip run more smoothly and save me time while I’m away! From a comprehensive multi-destination packing list to research space for each city I’ll be visiting so I know which side of escalators to stand on - thanks to my journal, I’m all set! Watch the video below to see how I set it up, or scroll down for photos and a little explanation of each page or spread.

My Journal of Choice

I’m using this cutie for my travel adventures - the Floating Cloud large journal from the Washi Tape Shop. It’s perfect for travel because it’s small without being tiny at 18cm tall by 13cm wide. It has 160 pages, which should be plenty of a month away, and 120GSM paper, so it’s thick enough not to ghost or bleed too badly without making the book unnecessarily heavy. Also the cover has these gorgeous clouds on it - what could be more perfect for jet setting?

A Decadent Cover Spread

Did I need a cover spread for this journal? No, but it was fun to set up!

Itinerary Spread

We’ll be flying, driving or catching trains between 9 different cities on this trip, so having all our travel, hotel and transit information in one place will be so helpful! I haven’t filled it out for this post for privacy reasons, but I’ll happily post it after the trip if you’re interested in a flip through!

A Tracker Page… Of Sorts

There are a few trackers I use in my main journal at the end of every month, but I won’t be bringing my main journal with me. Instead I’ll track those on this page so I can transfer them over when I get home.

Packing List Spread

I wanted a way to keep track of all my stuff as we move between hotels every few days. Hence my comprehensive packing list! Everything that needs to end up in my suitcase or carry-on backpack goes along the top of the table, and each city we’re staying in down the left side. This way I can tick things off in each city as we pack to leave, and never leave anything behind.

Trip Cost Breakdown Spread

This spread will only really come into play when I get home - it’s where I’ll log the totals of everything I bought for or on the trip by category, from flights and accommodation to food, souvenirs and attractions. Then, next time I travel (especially in Europe) I’ll have a great basis for my budget.

Research & Bucket List Spreads for Each Location

I’m only showing you my London pages for this one, since they’re all the same! On the left page I can list out any important info I’ll need for each city (and the country it’s in) - like the currency, language, how to get a subway pass, which side of escalators to stand on etc. This way I’ll have all that information on hand so I can refresh quickly before we hit a new city if I don’t remember. On the right side, I can list all the attractions I want to visit, foods I want to eat and sights I want to see! I don’t plan my itinerary down to what we’ll do every day on the trip - we like to explore and let a little lost - but it will be great to have a list to refer to so we can pick from it each day!
