January 2022 Beginner-Friendly Bullet Journal Layout with Stickers

After the hustle and bustle of the silly season, I was ready to simplify for the new year! Meet my 2022 January layout - just three coloured brush pens, a pack of stickers and plenty of negative space.

Winter Tones & Tombows

I’ve chosen three Tombow Dual brush pens for this layout, purely based on their cool tones. January heralds the hottest part of the Australian summer, so I always want to see wintery hues in my journal at this time of year! I’ve used Tombow 623 (purple sage), Tombow 636 (imperial purple), and Tombow 533 (peacock blue). All my fineliner needs this time were executed with a Sharpie pen.

My bullet journal for the first stage of 2022 is the Moonbeam journal from the Washi Tape Shop - don’t forget to use code ERINSMITH10 at checkout for 10% off!

Quote Page & Calendar Page

My January calendar page was inspired by this one from @LittleOliveBujo - I’m excited to try out a new calendar layout! This one is unique in that the days aren’t placed according to the day of the week, but rather just in sequence. It would look great for a month with a flat 30 days, but since January has 31 the bottom is a little wonky. I’ve balanced it out with some stickers!

The stickers I’m using throughout this layout are the Watercolour Plans + Flowers set from Notebook Therapy.

My “Currently” Spread

This “Currently” spread is also a new one for me - again, inspired by a layout I found on Instagram! The left hand page is lifted straight from this layout by @lennezulkiflly, and I’ve expanded it across the right page too. When I was a student using homework diaries, I used to doodle in the margins (is anyone surprised? Didn’t think so) and one of my favourite things to doodle was about the music I was listening to or the song that was stuck in my head that day. When I saw Lenne’s page, I was transported straight back to class in 2006, and I jumped at the idea of revisiting that old habit in my journal!

The left page boxes are for all the things I’m currently listening to, loving and watching or reading. The right page includes my usual gratitude log, as well as my goals section (repackaged as “aiming” to fit the “currently” theme) and “wanting” - a kind of wish list for things I’m thinking of buying, but not totally committed to yet.

Trackers for Phone, Sleep and Spending

Despite all this newness, some things never change - and this month that means the phone, sleep and spending tracker pages. Though I’ve adapted them a little to grow into my new A5 notebook, which is a few dots roomier than the Notebook Therapy original size Tsukis I’ve been using for the past year, they remain functionally the same as always. A few stickers keep the theme alive.

Habit & Mood Tracker Spread

Have I just thrown my theme out the window for my habit and mood tracker spread? Maybe a little, but as a full-time photographer and only part-time bullet journal fiend, a photographic themed spread doesn’t seem too far out of my wheelhouse. These sweet little polaroids hanging up to develop are a bullet journal favourite the world over, so it’s about time they featured in one of my layouts too.

A new challenger has appeared - I snuck in a black Tombow N15 to colour in the pegs. It would have been way too fiddly with the fineliner!

A Minimal Weekly Spread

Last but not least, the weekly spread - a big departure from my usual left-page-events, right-page-to-dos layout of recent months - is a direct rip-off of this one by @TigerFraeulein. Simple daily boxes with sticker accents? Sounds like a speedy, spacious and aesthetic spread to me.
